Face Scanner

Face Scanner

Recognizing facial characteristics is the method that human beings have always used. Recent technological advances have automated this in scanner devices. Typically, this method uses relative distances between common landmarks on the face to generate a unique “face print.” This results in the most convenient clocking system available, which can be used while carrying parcels and with one’s hands dirty or damaged. The facial recognition system is installed at any access point of the premise. The terminal unit and the camera are installed at the access point. The database can be kept in the same PC or in the central server.

Face Scanning Process:-

The authorized individuals are required to enroll themselves into the foremost system. It is believed that there are eighty nodal points on the face. Few of these nodal points are scanned by the system. The distance between the two eyes, nose and eyes, length of the lips, etc. They are distinct for every human being and remain the same throughout their life. This geometrical structure of the face is stored in the database as face templates. The structure of the face, in terms of nodal points, consists of points and is stored in the database as face templates of the person by the face scanner software.

Whenever the person appears before the camera, next time onwards, he will be recognized by the system. His current facial characteristics are scanned in terms of nodal points. These facial details are tallied with all the face templates stored in the database. If the person is enrolled, the facial structure is sure to match with one of the templates stored. When the facial structure is found matching with one of the templates stored, the face is considered identified. Details that are stored corresponding to the template flashes on the screen and the identity of the person making the transaction is established.

Typical Facial Recognition:-

No two individuals have the same facial structure, not even identical twins. Hence, it is very difficult for the system to blunder on its own. Since the system scans the distinct and permanent nodal points of the face, it is very difficult to fool the system either. Its use is increasing continuously and is expected to grow further in the near future. It is a highly developed system and functions by scanning the unique and permanent facial characteristics of the individual.

Face recognition time attendance software is an advanced biometric application. It requires the user to enroll the facial details of all the employees in a workplace. The enrollment procedure consists of storing the permanent facial characteristics of each individual in the database as templates. After enrollment, the enrolled individual only needs to look before the camera. His identity will be verified by the system and attendance will be marked on his behalf.

There is hardly any scope of error in the entire process. Vendors of a biometric face scanner time attendance system promises utmost accuracy. However, no security is fool proof. There are certain situations under which the application may fail to identify correctly.

Some of them can be as given below:-

* The Face Recognition software is dependent on lighting conditions. If the premise does not have proper lighting conditions, it may refuse to recognize an enrolled individual as well. This system is hence most suitable in closed areas with proper lighting.

* There are eighty nodal points on the face, which can be considered for identity verification. If the biometric time attendance system takes only a little out of consideration, there are higher chances of False Accept Rate. Unauthorized individuals may be allowed to mark attendance on behalf of the authorized employees.

* Considering too many nodal points at the time of verification may lead to high False Reject Rate. Variations in the pose at the time of making a transaction as compared to when enrolled also affect the transaction. If the head is slightly tilted or nodded, the biometric face scanner time attendance system may fail to identify the individual.

The possibilities of an error prevail in the above mentioned circumstances. However, modern time’s attendances are designed keeping all the above possibilities in mind. They are more accurate than manual modes of attendance marking. The chances of committing errors by a biometric face scanner time attendance system are less. One can rely on this application for attendance marking of a huge staff or a large number of students.

It is only a matter of time before Face recognition software is integrated into systems other than security cameras. Imagine walking up to an ATM machine and it instantly recognizes you, or verifying a credit card purchase by simply smiling for the camera. Arguing that this technology is not feasible is comparable to naysayer discussions during the early years of computing. Remember computers used to take up entire buildings and could only perform the simplest of tasks. Back then many people questioned the value the technology could add to society and many people were even fearful. Now we can scarcely imagine how people lived without them.

Facial recognition technology has been around for a while, but is still in its infancy. Most digital cameras utilize a simple form of FRT (Facial Recognition Technology). It is one thing for a camera to recognize a face is present in a photograph, yet a completely different thing to actually determine whose face that is. Some cell phones and computers use a simple form FRT as a security feature. Facial recognition technology has sweeping implications on how it could change the way everyone moves about and experiences the world.
